Home church finds new home →
Pretty cool new step for my church back home. We tried for years to find a new place: several tries became letdowns and trying to hold our old place together with Scotch tape. The new building is where I went to church for most of my early life and also to the Christian school there until 7th grade. Come to think of it, I spent a lot of time fixing up that building, too: from the roof coming off...

Seriously. Okay, not seriously, but almost. Go listen to this girl, right now - I’ll wait … I know, right! Amazing. She also has done voices for cartoons and video games. And she loves Jesus.

Tomorrow I turn 21. Apparently it’s the last age that is fun to enter into. We’ll see. And FYI, all fun is being delayed until Friday afternoon because I can’t celebrate until then.

Or those 18 that the tower in Siloam fell on and killed—do you think they were more sinful than all the people who live in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as well! Luke 18:4-5

I just read through one of my random notebooks from a couple of years ago. There’s a handful of good stuff in there. One item that I am ready to share is from an outline of a message I never gave or wrote out: “Jesus didn’t die for our skills or our moral compass - He died for us.”

I think I managed to get wart medicine into my bloodstream. It seems to have taken out some skin where it wasn’t even applied. Does this mean that the wart is gone? Probably not. This is ridiculous.

2 Registration overrides today. Feeling like a boss.  (a closed class and a time conflict - shout out to my adviser Kristi) Signing up for a class I know basically nothing about, except that it will let me graduate, and then immediately going to it. Made some snowballs while belting out Disney tunes with newish, but rising, friends. Awesome talk about Scripture and the working of the Holy...

Folicle Debaucle
I’m not usually there when people are talking behind my back. Even still, I’m certain that if I am being described by someone who knows me to someone more fortunate, the first attribute mentioned is my hair. That is the most basic way that my hair is a part of my identity. It is how I am recognized - proven by being treated as a stranger when I cut my hair July last. Another symptom...

“If we don’t want our young people to tear apart our communities then don’t let people in power tear apart the values that hold our communities together.” “But I know, as we all intuitively know, the solution is all around us and it isn’t political, it is spiritual.” Words of wisdom from a guy who isn’t often wise, or even funny: Russell Brand on...

21st century, 22 chapters
I’d just like to share a system that I have recently been using to study the Bible in the 21st century. I’ve been listening through Jon Courson’s most recent teachings through Revelation. I went through the whole previous series a few years ago, but I decided that I didn’t take enough notes. His Revelation teaching is awesome because he doesn’t take the “get...

Why to keep reading the Bible
I find myself getting bored with a lot of things recently for the simple fact that just about everything has been done before. Not only has everything been done before, but I can experience it all through the interwebs and across the airwaves. Every new thing I discover already has a history to it that I simply don’t have the energy to contribute to. Great songs have been written. The video...

Science's Origin of Faith
Michael Shermer, a popular religion critic, was recently on the Colbert Report and against my better judgment, I watched it. I’ve seen debates by him before and his arguments are so flawed they make me angry, I should have known that would happen this time. His contradictions were too glaring for me to pass up. Normally, I try to cite my sources and be a little more rigorous when talking...

Sci-Feelings
Just watched one of the best scenes from Battlestar Galactica (Season 4, Episode 16). It’s from one of the last episodes so it is far too long and scandalous to describe what is going on. I’ll just point out the two lines that make the scene for me because I relate to them. What you need to know is that these lines come from a Colonel Saul Tigh, the tough guy of the show who makes...

These summer months have been mildly eventful, so I feel kinda lame for not blogging about it. However, one of the aforealluded events was the demise of my laptop, delivering me to the mercy of the rest of my family’s computer needs. It feels weird to write on a computer that is not my own, anyway. I feel like someone is watching me or something. Writing has always been a secret hobby of...

Lovely frustration
Enchanted by the new, anchored by the old. Disillusioned by entertainment, wanting to bring the party. Taking care of my desires, longing for companionship. Honored by responsibility, drawn by freedom. Long from home, close to escape. Needing attention, needing invisibility. Wanting change, not yet, silly. Settling in, on shifting sand. Clean is orderly, clean is boring. Should be...

I love the way you lie
Yes, this is about that disturbing Eminem song. This song has always been disturbing to me, so much so that I used to avoid listening to it. Eminem’s career was built upon the expression of feelings that make people cringe, so I willingly fulfilled his purpose. I would change the station after about 15 seconds of the song, enough to enjoy the rhythm and enough to grow sick of the hatred....

TED
I’ve been watching some TED videos since some have been put on Hulu, a realm I traverse quite often. TED talks align quite well with my areas of interest and in a method that I enjoy. I think I formerly discovered TED in the late hours of one night, but it’s appearance on Hulu reminded me of the discovery, so I watched almost all of the Hulu demos while working this week. Here lie...

How much do I owe you?
When do you owe someone? You can owe money, respect, a favor, and gratitude, among other things. When money is owed, the debt is obvious and easily rectified. However, as soon as things become slightly less quantified, it becomes a mess. Gifts, for instance. If a gift is anticipated, it is generally proper to reciprocate - though the need for exact compensation is low. When a gift is...
